Russia – Academic and Scientific Engagement
Professor Patrick Treacy's engagement with Russia spans several decades, beginning at a pivotal moment in modern history. He first visited in 1991, during the transition from the Soviet Union to the Russian Federation, witnessing first-hand the economic and social upheaval of the period, including widespread shortages and food queues. The experience offered a rare perspective on a healthcare system and society undergoing profound change.
He later returned in a very different capacity, as one of the early Western physicians invited to participate in scientific exchange, including attendance at the International Stem Cell Conference in Moscow in 2005, at a time when regenerative medicine was beginning to emerge globally.
His involvement continued through the following decade, serving on the AMWC Eastern European Scientific Committee in 2012, and contributing to multiple academic meetings and lectures across the region between 2012 and 2019. This period reflected a growing integration of Eastern and Western medical communities, particularly in the fields of aesthetic and regenerative medicine.
These engagements concluded prior to the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, marking the end of a sustained period of academic collaboration and knowledge exchange in the region.
