Humanitarian Work in Liberia

🏠 Founded an Orphanage in Monrovia

In 2012, Dr Patrick Treacy established the Everland Children's Orphanage in Monrovia, Liberia. The project was funded through the Michael Jackson Legacy Foundation, with support from fans and charitable networks worldwide. This wasn't a symbolic visit — he built and opened a functioning facility.

👶 Focus on Abandoned and HIV-Affected Children

His work in Liberia is closely linked to his long-standing involvement with HIV/AIDS patients and orphaned children in Africa. The orphanage provided:

  • Shelter
  • Basic care
  • Education support

This ties directly into his earlier clinical work treating HIV-related facial lipodystrophy, giving him both medical and humanitarian engagement with the same population.

🌍 Part of a Wider African Humanitarian Network

Liberia is one node in a much larger system of projects, including HIV/AIDS programs in Malawi & South Africa, schools and water projects in Uganda & Pakistan, and orphanages in Haiti and Liberia. Liberia stands out because it represents permanent infrastructure, not just outreach.

🤝 Connection to Michael Jackson's Legacy Work

His humanitarian work in Liberia was partly carried out under the Michael Jackson Legacy Organisation. This collaboration helped fund projects, increase visibility, and sustain long-term support.

🏆 Recognition

His efforts in Liberia and across Africa contributed to him being named "Irishman of the Year 2024" for Humanitarianism in Africa.
