Humanitarian Work in Haiti
🏫 Building an Orphanage and School After the Earthquake
Following the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake, Dr Patrick Treacy became involved in rebuilding efforts, helping to establish an orphanage and educational facility in Mirebalais, near Port-au-Prince. This was a direct response to children left homeless, the collapse of local education systems, and long-term instability after the disaster.
👶 Focus on Vulnerable and Displaced Children
His Haiti work centres on orphaned and displaced children, providing shelter, education, and stability. This mirrors his Liberia work — but Haiti was more disaster-response driven, whereas Liberia was more development-driven.
🤝 Collaboration with International Humanitarian Organisations
Dr Treacy served as Honorary Ambassador to the Haiti Leadership Foundation and also worked under the umbrella of the Ailesbury Humanitarian Foundation and the Michael Jackson Legacy Organisation. These partnerships helped fund construction, sustain projects, and maintain long-term support.
🌍 Education as the Core Philosophy
A consistent theme in his Haiti work is education as the way out of poverty. This is why the Haiti project wasn't just food aid or medical missions — it was about creating a functioning school environment for hundreds of children.
